  • History

    One venue, many incarnations.

    Early History

    The Early Days
    Rural Douglas County
The current structure is the fourth schoolhouse to occupy the site. History swallowed the first circa 1860s structure. Flood consumed the second in 1903. Fire did in the third schoolhouse in 1928. But the fourth one stayed up. The current structure was built in 1929. In 1961, White School closed when Grant School opened.

    Ichabod's Era

    Anyone want a peanut?
Betwixt/between. Not quite city. Not quite county.
A "3-2" bar occupied the premesis from about 1975-1985. Ichabod's was a place to congregate, drink and eat peanuts. (Don't bother with the shells. Just toss them on the floor.) When the drinking age went to 21, the winds of change blew. (See the article from the 10/14/85 University Daily Kansan in PHOTOS section.)

    Party Central

    Date dashes and such.
    Where are those party pics?
Through the mid-80s and 90s the schoolhouse was rented as a party venue by many different university groups. These memories are a bit hazy, but there are probably some party pics out there that would help us remember. (Incidentally, if you have some party pics you'd like to share, please email them to schoolhouse1510@gmail.com)
